Alexander Private Hospital has been deemed inadequate by The Care Quality Commission (CQC) for various reasons, including lack of cleanliness and the use of out-of-date products. The report by the CQC states that while they did not inspect the key questions of safety, effectiveness, and leadership, they focused mainly on other key lines of inquiry to assess improvements made since the previous inspection, which was published on December 7th of last year. Alexander Private Hospital offers various procedures, such as liposuction and breast augmentation, despite having only 21 beds.

The report also highlighted that during the inspection conducted in February and March, staff had not adequately identified potential mental health conditions, resulting in unsuitability of surgery for certain patientsDerbyshireLive also confirms that this marks the hospital’s third ‘inadequate’ rating in less than a year, following inspections carried out in October and December 2022.

Inspectors noted in their report, “Not all theatre areas were clean, and furnishings were not all clean and well-maintained. Equipment and stored items were dusty in some areas. We found damaged equipment, such as a patient couch mattress in an operating theatre, which had tape covering ripped areas.”

The inspection further revealed unsafe storage of medicines, including some that were expired. Inspectors also raised concerns over the lack of staff training, poor record keeping (particularly regarding safeguarding), and the absence of evidence indicating appropriate discharge instructions given to patients.
