Companies Handed £104k Bill After Staff Exposed to Asbestos at Kidderminster Factory

By August 8, 2022 No Comments

Birmingham Live has reported that Magistrates have ordered Peter Gerald Parkes and his two companies to pay £104,000 after employees were exposed to asbestos–ridden materials found at his Kidderminster Factory.

An inspection of the property was carried out in February 2019 where a large number of materials, including insulating boards, were found to contain asbestos.  It has been told that both companies Kespar Engineering Limited and SDF Automotive Limited were aware of the asbestos in the Kespar Engineering Factory but did not review/update asbestos management plans, which meant they failed to ensure a ‘suitable and sufficient assessment’ of health risks to staff.

With both the location and dangers of asbestos not being monitored or controlled causing a serious health risk to staff working at the premises, Peter Gerald Parkes was sentenced:

  • 12-month suspended sentence.
  • Fined £9000
  • Ordered to pay £14,000 in costs.

Kespar Engineering Ltd was fined £51,000 and ordered to pay £30,000 in costs along with SDF Automotive Ltd was handed a two-year conditional charge.
