Dan Walker- who has appeared in TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Football Focus- posted a picture of himself in the back of an ambulance stating he had been involved in “a bit of an accident” on February 20th at around 8am.  This report from The Star,  highlights that this collision happened while Dan was out on his bike near Sheffield city centre and a driver knocked him off his bike on the St Mary’s Gate and Hanover Way roundabout round-about.

Whilst Dan isn’t blaming the driver for this, he also states that the accident was not his fault.  The 45-year-old from Sheffield says, “There is still nothing there, which a large part of me is very happy about. I can’t go into details at the moment because the police might take another week or so to publish their report but, after talking to Conor (a police officer), I am confident that I am not to blame and I hope this can be resolved outside the courts.”

The South Yorkshire Police have stated that there hasn’t been any arrest and the inquiry is currently ongoing.

Government statistics published in 2022, showed that almost half of cycling accidents involve two vehicles including a car. In addition to this stat, as much as 4353 cyclists involved in road collisions had been seriously injured in 2021. The roundabout where Mr Walker had the accident is well known for accidents as another collision happened on the 24th of February, just four days after Dan’s collision.

The 45-year-old strongly believes that without his helmet, he could have lost his life. He said “The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you’re on a bike – get one on your head. Smashed my watch and phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here.”
