A 54-year-old tenant renting a property managed by Together Housing has reported that she made two complaints in relation to mould problems in her house but was repeatedly ignored. Christine Ridell, who is also disabled, has reported that the mould in her house in Bacup is causing negative effects on her health and despite raising this issue to the council, nothing has been done.
She reported that despite her husband’s effort to wipe down the house, the water and damp does not dry out due to an issue with ventilation. She says that her experience has been very draining for her to deal with and due to the mould expanding and being persistent, this has been making her cough. Christine has also had to throw away one pair of shoes due to mould damaging them.
It took 12 months for Together Housing to send an inspector after several complaints.
Christine said, “It’s so draining dealing with them. I’m having to sleep in the front room because it’s just making me cough because it’s that damp and wet in the bedroom. I can’t do it. My husband can do it but I can’t so I’ve been sleeping on the couch which is killing me because of my disability.”
Together Housing Group Assistant Director of Property, Stephen Garner said: “We are sorry that our resident Mrs Riddell has been experiencing problems at her home in Bacup. An appointment has been made to attend the condensation problem on November 14.”
