Hammersmith & Fulham Council aim to take damp and mould issues after topping the list as the landlord with the most damp and mould according to the latest Housing Ombudsman’s report. The key issues that this report highlights (from overall complaint volumes and outcomes between April 2019 – Match 2021) are:
- 1595 complaints from residents about damp and mould were reporting while within the landlord’s complaint process and were assisted by their Dispute Team
- 410 damp and mould complaints were formally investigated because the resident was dissatisfied with the landlord’s response
- 56% of cases they investigated resulted in findings of maladministration
- 976 individual findings were made within those complaints
- 501 orders were made to put something right with 288 additional recommendations
- £123,094.57 in compensation was ordered across 222 cases, with sums are £1000 being ordered in 21 cases.
The worst landlords included:
- Hammersmith and Fulham council
- A2Dominion Housing Group
- Camden Council
- Lambeth Council
- Southwark Council
- Leeds City Council
- Clarion Housing Association
- Birmingham City Council
- Sanctuary Council
- London & Quadrant Housing Trust
The worst councils/housing associations for mould and damp were Hammersmith and Fulham Council, followed by Clarion Housing Association and Leeds City Council.
