Clinical Negligence- Campaign Promises and Commitments
Whilst many claim the UK general election result is a foregone conclusion, for the parties involved there has been much debate around the NHS and issues leading to clinical negligence and compensation for victims- with less said about the specifics.
Labour leader Keir Starmer has committed to significant reforms in the NHS to reduce waiting times and improve patient safety. He emphasises the need for a fair compensation system for victims of clinical negligence and has promised to increase funding for the NHS to support these initiatives.
The Labour Party’s “My Plan for Change” focuses on restoring hope, stopping Conservative mismanagement, and rebuilding the country. Key healthcare commitments include building an NHS fit for the future and addressing issues like long waiting times in A&E. The plan also emphasises ensuring healthcare providers have the resources to prevent negligence.
Meanwhile, the Conservative focus is on NHS staffing. The Conservative manifesto, while not explicitly detailing clinical negligence, focuses on increasing the number of healthcare professionals and improving NHS productivity, which indirectly addresses the root causes of clinical negligence by aiming to reduce staff shortages and burnout. The document focuses heavily on other health-related issues such as increasing the number of nurses and doctors, improving NHS productivity, and cutting NHS managers.
BBC News has highlighted healthcare, including patient safety and clinical negligence, as a critical issue in the election. Discussions have centered around how different parties plan to address the backlog of cases and improve overall patient care in the NHS. Debates on NHS Funding have continued in The Guardian, who have reported extensively on this issue. Both major parties have made pledges to increase funding. And on ITV News, in various interviews and debates, politicians have been pressed on their plans for handling clinical negligence. For example, Labour’s focus on increasing NHS funding and the Conservatives’ plans to boost staffing levels have again been key talking points.
Overall, a number of aims and commitments which may address underlying issues have been raised- but not a great deal to separate the two major parties.
UKEM’s Office Move
We are thrilled to announce that, after more than 10 rewarding, challenging and ultimately hugely successful years spent over two offices in our previous premises, we have moved to a larger, and better-equipped place we now call home at Spring Gardens, Manchester. This significant milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and trust of our team and clients. Our new premises are perfect to better serve our clients and provide a more efficient and comfortable working environment for our staff.
Clare Harrison (Head of Business Operations) told us:
“It has been really exciting to be involved in the project to find a new home for the UKEGroup. Our new space reflects the hard work of our team and will allow us to continue with our plans to innovate and grow as a group of businesses supporting those who have been impacted by injury or negligence. The new space provides us not only with a great environment for the team but also a space to host guests and clients so if you are in Manchester we would love for you to call in and visit us.”
